For the past few months, my desktop monitor has occasionally changed brightness on its own after I stop using the keyboard or mouse for a short while. Sometimes the screen dims and sometimes it becomes brighter, and moving the cursor immediately seems to restore it. It only lasts briefly, but the sudden change is startling. The PC is about a year old, and I'm worried the problem could be related to the graphics card. Has anyone dealt with this or know what settings I should check?

Try switching the operating system’s power mode from Balanced to Best Performance to see whether display power-saving behavior is involved. If it’s already set to Best Performance, check the monitor’s own settings for auto-brightness, dynamic contrast, eco mode, or ambient-light adjustment.
Do you happen to be using an OLED monitor? Some OLED displays have automatic brightness or panel-protection behavior that can change the screen when the image stays still. Since you said it isn’t OLED, that specific explanation probably doesn’t apply.
