Windows 11 Pro N periodically shows a security notification saying Microsoft Defender isn't turned on and recommending that I enable it. However, when I open Windows Security, Defender appears to be enabled and working normally. The warning happens most often during the first startup of the day, though it sometimes appears randomly. Could this be related to Windows Update or Defender updating in the background and briefly reporting the wrong status? The computer uses supported hardware.

The issue has been reported by multiple users over the past month. The general consensus is that Windows Security is occasionally displaying an incorrect status, and it may be fixed in a future major update. It’s still worth checking the Windows Security dashboard directly rather than relying on the notification alone.
This appears to be a current Windows bug. If Windows Security shows that Defender is enabled, you can dismiss the notification and continue using the system normally. A restart may also clear the warning temporarily.
