I bought my iPhone 14 new in December 2024, and its maximum battery capacity seems to drop by about 2% every few months. It is now showing 86%, which feels faster than expected. I use the phone for roughly three hours a day, mostly for Netflix and Instagram, with occasional Clash of Clans sessions. I do not play demanding games while charging. I use a 25W charging brick and the cable that came with the phone, and I'm currently running iOS 26.6.1. What could be causing the battery health to decline this quickly?

A 2% change every few months does not necessarily mean the battery is deteriorating at exactly that rate. The health estimate is recalculated periodically, so it can stay stable for a while and then drop by a couple of points at once. At 86%, the battery is aging, but that reading alone does not indicate a fault. Usage, charging cycles, heat, and time all contribute, even with a normal Apple charger.
Apple’s battery guidance is based largely on charge-cycle counts rather than calendar time. An iPhone battery is expected to retain around 80% of its original capacity after a substantial number of cycles under ideal conditions, so 86% can still be within normal aging depending on how many cycles the phone has completed. Try to avoid excessive heat, especially while charging, and check whether the battery settings show any service recommendation. If the phone is still lasting normally, there may be no immediate problem.
The 25W charger and included cable are fine. A higher-wattage charger does not automatically damage the battery because the phone controls how much power it accepts; heat and overall usage are more important factors.
That makes sense. I mainly use it for around three hours daily, with Netflix, Instagram, and occasional Clash of Clans, so I was surprised to see it fall this much.
