My PC has been noticeably louder than usual even though I'm not gaming or running anything demanding. In Task Manager, NVIDIA Container (2) is consistently among the first few processes, despite NVIDIA not appearing to install an update. Ending the process only makes it return. Is this normal, and how can I find out what is causing the extra activity? I'm using Windows 11 with a Ryzen 9 7900, 32GB of DDR5 memory, and an RTX 3060.

One possibility is ShadowPlay or another NVIDIA overlay recording or monitoring the desktop. Check the NVIDIA app or GeForce Experience settings and make sure Instant Replay, desktop capture, overlays, and recording are disabled. If the PC is still louder afterward, check Task Manager’s GPU engine and the GPU’s temperature or fan speed to identify what is actually keeping the graphics card active.
NVIDIA Container is a normal background service used by NVIDIA’s drivers and related features, so it will usually restart after being ended. Its position near the top does not automatically mean there is a problem—check the actual CPU, memory, GPU, and power usage columns to see whether it is using a significant amount of resources. You can also expand the process and inspect which NVIDIA service is responsible.
I already disabled the overlay and recording features, so I’m still unsure what the container is doing. I’ll check the GPU usage and temperature rather than judging it only by its position in Task Manager.
