Why Is Wi‑Fi Unstable on My iPhone After a Power Outage?

My home Wi‑Fi became noticeably worse on my iPhone after a recent power outage. The connection drops randomly, but it works normally on my iPad. The outages happen fairly often, although this has never caused a problem before. I've restarted the router, forgotten and rejoined the network, reset the iPhone's network settings, and tried powering the networking equipment down, but nothing has changed. What else should I check?

The outage may have changed the router’s wireless channel or damaged part of its radio. Check the router’s settings to see whether it is switching channels automatically, and test both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks if they are available. A factory reset could help, but back up the router configuration first. If the issue continues, replacing the router is worth considering.

I’ve already forgotten and rejoined the network, reset the phone’s network settings, and restarted the equipment, but the connection still drops.

Try the iPhone on a different Wi‑Fi network, such as a friend’s or a public connection. If it stays stable elsewhere, ask your internet provider to replace their router or test your equipment. If it disconnects everywhere, the phone itself is the more likely cause.

Because the iPad works normally on the same network, the problem may be specific to the iPhone. Check that iOS is updated, then compare how the phone behaves on another Wi‑Fi network. If it also drops there, the phone’s Wi‑Fi hardware or software may be the issue. If it only happens at home, focus on the router or its settings.
