Will a White PC Case Yellow in a Warm, Bright Room?

I'm considering buying a used white PC that's about a year old, but I'm wondering whether its parts could yellow over time. My room has three windows, gets plenty of natural light, and doesn't have air conditioning, so it can become fairly warm. I'm planning to keep the computer for many years. For anyone who has owned a white build for at least two years: have you noticed the plastic yellowing, and do sunlight or room temperature make a meaningful difference? I'm perfectly fine with buying a black build, so I mainly want to know whether yellowing—especially uneven yellowing—is something worth considering. I don't smoke.

Older cases show that yellowing can happen eventually, but it may take a decade or more and can be so gradual that you barely notice it. One long-term example stayed white for around fifteen years, while another older build showed slight yellowing mainly on its plastic compared with the metal panels.

I wouldn’t avoid a white build solely because the room is warm and bright. If the case is exposed to direct sunlight for years, some plastic parts could develop an ivory tint, but it’s unlikely to happen quickly. If color consistency matters more than appearance, black is the safer choice.

It usually isn’t an immediate problem. A white build may stay looking normal for several years, with noticeable yellowing more likely after a long period such as seven to ten years. It depends heavily on the materials and exposure.

The biggest distinction is between painted metal and plastic. White-painted steel generally holds its color well, while some plastics—especially ABS—can yellow eventually because of UV exposure and aging. The effect may be subtle rather than dramatic.

That’s useful to know. I’m mainly concerned about the plastic becoming noticeably different from the painted metal, rather than the entire case changing color evenly.

Several people reported no noticeable yellowing after two to six years, even in bright rooms. Keeping blinds closed or preventing direct sunlight from hitting the case should help, and normal room warmth alone probably won’t cause rapid discoloration.
