Every 10 seconds, Windows plays the USB disconnect and reconnect sounds, and the computer briefly lags each time. It started randomly, with no obvious change or trigger. Inspect the external and internal USB ports for dust, bent contacts, or debris. A dirty or slightly damaged port can repeatedly make and lose contact. Because it continues with everything external unplugged, the culprit is probably an internal device connected to a motherboard USB header. Common possibilities include the case’s front USB ports, an AIO cooler, an RGB controller, a fan hub, or an internal Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card. Start by powering down the PC and disconnecting the front-panel USB header from the motherboard. If the reconnecting stops, that cable or one of the front ports is likely failing.
If this began after a recent Windows update, check the installed update history and temporarily remove KB5124008 or KB5124012 if either one is present. Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates. This is mainly a diagnostic step to see whether the update is involved.
A power problem could also cause this, especially if the motherboard is briefly losing power to its USB controller. Check the power supply connections and look in the BIOS for any unusual voltage readings. If the readings are unstable or outside normal ranges, the power supply or motherboard may need further testing.
