I updated my laptop last night, and afterward the lock screen said, "Your PIN is no longer available due to a change in the security settings on this device. Click to set up your PIN." When I select it, I can sign in and reach the screen asking whether I want to change the PIN, but choosing Continue gives me an error saying something went wrong. I've tried repeatedly, but nothing changes. I can't access the desktop, and the only available options are connecting to Wi-Fi, restarting, sleeping, shutting down, or changing accessibility settings such as magnification and contrast. How can I get back into the laptop?

If there’s a “Skip for now” option, try that first. If it lets you reach the desktop, back up your important files immediately before attempting more fixes. The PIN may be broken while the account itself is still accessible.
You can try connecting the laptop directly to the router with an Ethernet cable, since a wired connection can sometimes help with account or update-related sign-in checks. That said, this sounds more like the update changed the Windows security settings than a normal Wi-Fi problem.
I’m already connected to Wi-Fi, so I’m not sure the network is the issue. The problem only started immediately after the update.
