Hey everyone! I'm trying to decide between getting a brand new Ryzen 5700X for around $100, a second-hand Ryzen 5700X3D for about $170, or a new 5700X3D for $250-$260. I've seen a lot of reviews that mention the performance can vary a lot based on the game. How much of a difference should I expect between these CPUs, and is the 5700X3D worth the extra cash? Also, I'm planning to upgrade my PC with an RX 9070, but I'm currently using an old 650W PSU, which makes me wonder if power consumption should be a concern too. Just to give you an idea, I'm looking to game mostly at 2560x1440 resolution, and my current setup has a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU with a 2070 Super GPU.

I'm running a 5700X3D with a 9070XT, and it's working great for me. If you can get a used one for $170, that's a solid choice!
If you are aiming for 4K or ultrawide resolutions, the X3D will definitely benefit you more. But for 2K gaming, you could save some cash and go with the 5700X. Just be aware that using upscaling requires a good CPU to keep up. If you think your gaming needs will stay at 2K for a while, the X3D will be great for that.
If you're more of a casual gamer at 1440p, the new 5700X for $100 is a steal, and you could use the savings for a better GPU or PSU. But if you want something future-proof, you might want to grab the used X3D, which gives you better performance for the money.
Your choice really depends on what games you're playing. If you're into high-res gaming like 3440x1440 or 4K, you might not see much of a difference with the X3D. But for 1080p or 1440p, I'd say go for the X3D. You should consider how long you plan to keep your setup too. If you’re looking to upgrade eventually, the X3D could potentially offer better longevity.
What about using a non-XT 9070 for 2K gaming? My case can’t probably fit the XT.
I'd recommend going for the 5700X3D—that one will definitely give you better performance, especially at higher resolutions like 1440p. For the PSU, a 650W should be sufficient since the 5700X3D is only around 65W TDP. You should be fine running the 9070 as well, with some headroom to spare!
Just a note, the 5700X3D does have a TDP of 105W, but your PSU should still handle it without issues.
I don't plan on going beyond 2K in the next few years, so what's your take on that?
