9700X or 9800X3D for My New Gaming Build?

Hey everyone! I finally got permission from my wife to set up a desktop PC in our living room, which is a relief since my laptop (with a GTX 1660 Ti) is giving up on me, and I'm tired of the small screen. I'm planning to spend around €2400 on this new build primarily for gaming at 1440p. Here's the build I'm considering: [PC Part Picker List](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QjyRh7).

I'm a bit torn between the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X and the 9800X3D. The 9800X3D seems more future-proof, especially if I decide to upgrade my GPU later, but going with the 9700X would save me €200, which is a significant amount. I would love your thoughts on whether the performance difference between these two CPUs is substantial enough to justify the extra cost. Do you think the 9700X will become outdated faster? Also, could you help confirm that all my parts are compatible? Thanks a lot for your input!

Since this is going in your living room, consider a case like the Silverstone Grandia. It fits better with home theater setups and has a higher chance of getting the 'wife approval!'

The right CPU depends a lot on the games you play. If you go with a 9700X, you'll have a strong setup with the 5070 Ti, just make sure the games you enjoy can max out the settings without any stutter. If you can spare the €200, the 9800X3D will guarantee better longevity for your build.

I game at 1440p with a 9700X and a 5070 Ti, and it's a fantastic combo. No bottlenecks and max settings with high frames! If you don’t mind spending more, the 9800X3D is great, but honestly, for 1440p, the 9700X is solid enough.

While the 9800X3D is technically the better CPU, it might not be worth an extra €200 for your 1440p gaming setup. By the time the 9700X starts to feel obsolete, the 9800X3D may also be nearing its end of life. It really depends on how long you plan to keep the build!

From my experience with both CPUs, if you're gaming at 1440p and not using a high-end GPU like a 4090 or 5090, you probably won't notice a huge difference. The 9800X3D definitely shines in 1080p competitive gaming, but with higher settings on a 9070XT or 5070 Ti, both should perform well. Plus, if you decide to upgrade your CPU later on, you can always do that too!

Check the French PC part picker for a nice setup around €2100. You can get a Ryzen 7 9800X3D with some solid components without going completely overboard. Here's a breakdown: CPU, cooler, motherboard, memory, and everything you need looks good and compatible!
