Advice for Transitioning from Navy IT: Certifications, College, and Career Tips?

I'm currently serving in the Navy as an IT specialist and I want to set myself up for a successful transition to civilian life. I'm looking for advice on what steps to take to ensure I make decent money after I get out. Should I pursue college education or specific certifications? Also, I have a security clearance, which I hear can be beneficial. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Definitely keep that security clearance active! It can lead to higher-paying jobs in the tech field, especially within government contracting. Employers value it since it's a hassle for them to get new hires cleared. Just make sure to look for positions that utilize that clearance.

Just keep in mind that not all positions will necessarily offer a significant pay bump just for having clearance anymore.

I live close to a military base and many local jobs require clearance. They typically offer good pay and benefits!

You’re on the right path! Focus on specializing in systems or cybersecurity, as those areas are in high demand. Knowing what tech you've worked with will also help—if you have any certs or a degree, those will definitely boost your prospects too.

I’m just starting out in IT, having just finished training. What’s the best way to prepare for when I leave?
