Hey everyone! I'm about to start a new IT support job in two weeks, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. This new position is a big shift for me since I'll be working with different technologies than I'm used to at my current job. Instead of using Azure, I'll be diving into Google Cloud Platform (GCP). I'll also be switching from Windows 11 to MacOS, and instead of using Entra and Intune, I'll be using OKTA and Jamf.
I do have some experience with Powershell, but now I'll need to learn bash. I went through a rigorous five-stage interview process and was offered the job, despite them knowing I wasn't familiar with this tech stack. I also recently became a parent, so managing this big change is a bit scary for me. I'd really appreciate any advice on how to prepare for this role and any steps you'd recommend I take to get ready!

Hey, that switch sounds challenging, but also like an awesome opportunity for your career! If you’re comfortable with Powershell, you’ll find that bash has its quirks, but it's manageable. Don't hesitate to check out some Python or automation tools like Ansible or Terraform to help with GCP. Just remember, every OS has its similarities, and as you dive into the new environment, you'll get the hang of it quicker than you think!
It's totally normal to feel nervous about such a big change! Remember, they feel confident in your skills since they hired you. Focus on learning the new technologies gradually rather than trying to jump in all at once. Just take notes, ask questions when you're unsure, and give yourself time to adjust. A positive attitude will go a long way! You've got this!

Thanks for the encouragement! I’ll definitely look into those tools, and I appreciate the reassurance!
