Advice Needed for Upgrading My 6-Year-Old Gaming PC

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some suggestions on upgrading my gaming setup that I built about six or seven years ago. Here's what I currently have: a Ryzen 7 2700 CPU, Aorus x470 motherboard, a 2070 Super GPU, and 16GB of RAM, all displayed on a Samsung 49" CRG 9 monitor. I primarily play iRacing and flight simulator games, along with some home office tasks. At the moment, I'm playing on low to medium settings but would love the ability to crank up the graphics a bit. I'm also considering getting back into VR, but previously I only managed 30-40 FPS with my current setup. My main question is whether upgrading my CPU would be worthwhile, especially since it's on the AM4 socket. I want to avoid wasting money on an upgrade that wouldn't make a significant difference, especially since it wouldn't fit on a newer motherboard. Although I'm open to building a new system, I'd prefer to keep this one running a little while longer if possible. Thanks for your input!

If your x470 motherboard is running at least BIOS version F60, then you're in a good spot to consider upgrades. A new GPU would give you the biggest boost in performance. Pairing it with a newer AM4 CPU, like a Ryzen 5 5700X, would complement the upgrade nicely, especially after you update your BIOS. I wouldn't fret about a full rebuild right now since AM4 still has plenty of decent options.

Good to know! That’s exactly the route I was thinking. I might even stretch for the 5080 if I feel adventurous, but the 5070 sounds like a safe bet.
