I'm in the process of building my home office computer and need some advice! Currently, I've got a 256GB SSD and 12GB of RAM, but I'm quickly outgrowing it. I want to upgrade to three monitors instead of two and I've never built a PC before. Gaming isn't a priority; I aim to have something that lasts for about 5-7 years primarily for office work. What kind of programs do you typically run for work? For standard office tasks, you probably won't need a dedicated GPU; the integrated graphics should be sufficient. The RX580 is pretty outdated and not worth the price, especially when better alternatives like the Intel Arc B580 are available. Also, you might not need a sound card, as onboard audio is usually good enough. Depending on your workload, you might even want to consider a cheaper CPU option, as what you have planned may be overkill. It might be worth checking out some pre-built options too, as they can often be more competitive in price for general office use.
Thanks for the detailed response! I could use a different GPU since I only need something to support three monitors. I realize I don’t need the sound card, and I'm planning for a CPU upgrade to be future-proof with increasing demands from AI. Mostly, I deal with invoices and paperwork that I convert to PDF, and any lag can slow me down, especially after a long workday.
