Advice on Finishing a Gaming Rig for My Girlfriend

I'm looking to put together a gaming rig for my girlfriend using some of my old computer parts. Right now, I have an Intel i7-4790 processor, 16GB of Kingston Fury Beast DDR3 RAM, an MSI motherboard, and a Samsung 256GB SATA SSD which I'm currently using but will transfer to her setup. What additional components do I need to buy to create a balanced build? We're mainly looking to play some games like Minecraft and other lighter titles.

Since you're using older parts, keep in mind that the i7-4790 can handle light gaming like Minecraft, but it's a bit dated for more demanding games. Your DDR3 RAM is also from the same era, so while it'll suffice for casual tasks, it may fall short for heavier gaming down the line. If your RAM is in dual channel mode, that helps a bit! The 256GB SSD will work, but you might run out of space quickly with multiple games. If you plan to play more intensive games, consider adding a decent used GPU to boost performance, and you'll also want a new PSU to support it.

Honestly, your setup is pretty old, but for light gaming, it'll get the job done. I'd suggest looking for the cheapest second-hand GPU you can find to enhance your graphics performance. Just remember to grab a new power supply as well, especially if you’re adding a more powerful GPU. Your current CPU is pretty much a relic, but it should suffice for casual games.
