Advice on Upgrading My PC for Gaming Performance

I'm trying to enhance my gaming experience since I've been experiencing heavy input lag while playing the Battlefield 6 beta. It seems my CPU consistently hits 100% usage during gameplay while my GPU stays relatively underutilized. I previously managed to play Battlefield 2024 somewhat well, but using Discord alongside it caused noticeable lag. I've encountered stuttering in some games too. Initially, I thought upgrading my CPU would solve the problems, but I've come to realize that I might also need to upgrade my motherboard and GPU.

I'm still learning about PC building and I'm not sure how to pinpoint my system's bottlenecks accurately. Here are my current specs and the requirements for Battlefield 6:

**Current System:**
- Intel Core i5-9400F 2.9 GHz 6-Core Processor
- ASRock H310CM-HDV Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
- NVIDIA Founders Edition GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB Video Card
- Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory

**Battlefield 6 Requirements:**
- Intel Core i7-10700
- Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti
- 16GB RAM

**Planned Upgrades:**
- Intel i7-10700F 2.9 GHz 8-Core Processor
- ASRock H470M-HVS Micro ATX LGA1200 Motherboard

I feel like I might hit performance limits soon if I don't upgrade to a motherboard supporting newer CPUs. Do you think assessing my CPU as the main bottleneck is accurate? Is upgrading to an i7 and a new motherboard overkill, or is it a smart move for future gaming? Let me know if you need any more details!

You're definitely correct that your CPU is holding you back. Battlefield 6 is pretty demanding on the CPU side, and it sounds like your current setup isn't cutting it. I'd advise against the i7-10700F unless you find an unreal deal—it’s on the slower side compared to newer options. Your motherboard also looks outdated; I'd skip it entirely. A combo of the i5-12600KF and a B760 DDR4 board would be a much better pick—around $240 for both. Don't forget, if you don’t already have one, grab an aftermarket cooler too!

But doesn’t the i5 have fewer cores? Isn’t it better to have more cores for handling workloads?

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with the old Intel chips like the 10700F. It's best to go with a more recent generation like the i5-12400F paired with a B760 board. Not only will this save you money, but they perform similarly or better while using less power. Think about it, efficiency and performance for less cash? That's a win!

Yeah, that does sound like a more economical way to go. I hadn’t thought about the power consumption aspect!
