I've got an iPhone SE (2nd Gen) that I've had for six years. Despite its age and some battery issues, it's been working fine until I updated to iOS 26. I hesitated to update because I knew it might worsen my battery life, but I did it to get some apps that require the new OS. Since the update, I can't make or receive any calls, not even the dialing sound. Is there a way to resolve this situation until I can upgrade my phone?

Have you tried removing and reinserting your SIM card? Or if you’re using an eSIM, try turning it off and then back on. Sometimes that can help resolve these kinds of issues.
First off, just to clarify, the iOS version doesn't actually impact battery capacity directly. It sounds more like a network issue or maybe your SIM card is acting up. I'd recommend contacting your cell service provider for help.
Really? So it's just a coincidence that my phone started acting up right after the update? I thought I heard Apple admit to slowing down older phones to manage battery life.

Just to add, when you upgrade your iOS, you might see a temporary increase in battery usage at first due to background processes. Plus, with older phones like the SE, any added graphics can really tax the battery, which could make it feel like the battery lasts less. It's not that the update lowers battery capacity, just that it might drain faster for a bit.
