Am I Dealing with Malware or Just Computer Issues?

I recently upgraded to Windows 11 from an older version, and since then, my computer has been acting weird. Chrome tabs crash, and I keep getting blue screen errors mentioning 'ntfs.sys.' I've only installed a few programs like Chrome, Steam, and Discord, but my internet and overall system still feel sluggish. When I ran Malwarebytes, it flagged something called 'riskware.ifeoHijack' in my registry. Can anyone explain what this is? Is it something dangerous like a rootkit, or could it just be my hard drive acting up? Sometimes, my computer runs a repair on boot, which makes me doubt the hard drive's health.

To further diagnose your problems, it might help to check for dump files related to the blue screens. They hold crash info and are usually found in the C:WindowsMinidump folder. If you find any, zip and share them with the community for better analysis! You can look at resources like catbox.moe to upload them since Reddit blacklist a lot of sites.

Thanks! I’ll look for those dump files and share them if I find any.

It sounds like a frustrating issue! First off, it's good you ran Malwarebytes. The 'riskware.ifeoHijack' could be a browser hijacker rather than a rootkit, which are pretty rare these days. Lots of times, these hijackers just mess with your browser settings and can slow down performance. You might want to check MB's support forum for detailed help on removing it properly; they usually have good guides.

That makes sense. But how can something like that survive after I completely reformatted my drive?

These hijackers can sometimes hide in backups or partitions. Just make sure you wipe everything thoroughly before a fresh install.

Also, consider running a disk diagnostic tool, like Spec-ify. It can give insights into whether your hard drive is failing, which might explain the sluggish performance. Just remember, if you think there's hardware failure, back up your important data first!

I appreciate the suggestion! I'll definitely give it a try.
