Hey everyone! I'm new to programming, specifically focusing on web development. My background is in finance, and I've been studying that for 2-3 years, but I've realized I have no passion for it at all. I'm about to graduate in a year and have recently started to dive into web development, which I actually enjoy. However, my dad isn't thrilled about my choice. He wants me to pursue an MBA after my graduation, which I plan to do eventually, but I want to focus on programming first, maybe work some jobs or internships in the field to build a solid portfolio. My dad thinks that won't lead to anything worthwhile and claims that having a portfolio or online certificates won't help me land a job. I'm determined to learn and create something valuable, so any advice or guidance would be appreciated!

The first question to ask yourself is if you actually want a job in programming. If you're ready to put in 6-8 hours a day to learn, that’s great! Focus on what interests you and remember that many people transition careers successfully, even from fields like finance.
It could be useful to check out communities related to computer science and IT careers; there's a lot of advice shared there that can help you. Don’t be discouraged by your dad; many people land jobs without traditional degrees. A solid portfolio can seriously boost your chances.
I'm not super focused on just getting a job, but I definitely want to earn through something I enjoy.
