Hey everyone! I'm planning an upgrade for my gaming rig and need some advice. Currently, I have a Ryzen 7 3700X paired with a GTX 3080 and 32GB of DDR4 RAM. I usually play CPU-heavy games, so I'm looking to upgrade my CPU, which means I'll also need to switch to DDR5 RAM and get a new motherboard. Here's what I've got in mind for my new build:
- **CPU**: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D 4.3 GHz 16-Core Processor ($1049.00)
- **Motherboard**: Gigabyte X870 EAGLE WIFI7 ATX AM5 Motherboard ($360.73)
- **Memory**: Kingston FURY Beast 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL36 Memory ($500.00)
- **Storage**: Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 5.0 X2 NVME Solid State Drive ($297.11)
- **Video Card**: NVIDIA Founders Edition GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 12 GB Video Card
- **Power Supply**: Corsair RM1000x (2024) 1000 W Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($278.00)
So, with this setup, will I encounter a bottleneck using the 3080? I'd like to stick to the GPU since it's working well for me, but will this strong CPU be too much for it?

I've made a similar upgrade before. Switched from a 5600X with a 3080 to a 9800X3D, and the performance was solid. It really depends on the games you play; some are more CPU-intensive than others. Overall, if you're gaming at 1440p, you should be fine!
The 3080 Ti still holds up well at 1440p, but honestly, that CPU is a bit overkill for it. You might be able to save some cash with a less powerful CPU option if you're primarily gaming.
Yes, with that CPU, you're likely to create a GPU bottleneck. But don’t stress too much about it; it just means you could achieve higher performance with a better GPU. It’s pretty common. Just enjoy what you have!
So to clarify, does that mean I'll be maxing out the potential of the 3080, and the only way to see better performance would be to upgrade the GPU later? If that's the case, I’m good with it!

I'm in the same boat with games like Tarkov! It demands a serious CPU. I'm thinking about waiting a year or two for a GPU upgrade myself. The 9800X3D has great reviews too, so that might be a good option for you!
