Hey everyone! I usually apply a small amount of thermal paste, but I'm second-guessing myself this time since this CPU was pretty pricey. My previous CPU, a 5600x, had BIOS temps around 25-30°C, but this one is sitting at about 35°C. I know both are low temps, but a 10°C difference just in BIOS seems off to me. When I first set up this CPU on a different motherboard, it was around 27°C, but I used a lot more thermal paste then and applied it in an X pattern, which I learned from my cooler's guide. Now I'm tempted to reapply the thermal paste, but I wanted to get your thoughts first. Cheers!

That's definitely enough paste for a CPU. Just remember, you can always run it like it is now—there's no need to freak out!
Different CPUs often behave very differently, so those temps are pretty normal given the specs. Just remember, the IHS on AM5 CPUs is thicker, which can trap more heat against the die.
You're definitely overthinking this! Honestly, I would have used a bit more paste, but if your temps are looking good, you should be fine with what you have. Don't sweat it too much.
Haha, I tend to overthink a lot! The thermal paste tube that came with the cooler was tiny, and this is all I had left for my second application.
I couldn't check the link you posted, but check out this video from GamersNexus about thermal paste application methods. It's really helpful! Just search for their channel on YouTube for some guidance.
Thanks for the tip! I apologize for the broken link; it seemed fine on my end.
If you're going to apply more, try the cross or manual spread method. Even if you overdo it slightly, the cooler pressure will squeeze out any excess.
That CPU runs a bit hotter than the 5600x for sure. A 5-degree increase isn't a big deal—under load, you could expect it to hit over 80°C, so don’t stress too much about it!
I'll be in tears if it hits 80°C! I've never had a CPU go above 60°C, but I do plan on tweaking it. Can't wait to see how it performs. This is my first x3D!
Thanks! With all the horror stories about the 9800x3D, I’m tempted to apply more paste. But I worry about using too much and it seeping out!
