I'm looking to upgrade my CPU to an Intel 14600KF and have a couple of concerns. First, is it hard to install a contact frame, and can anything go wrong during that process? If I decide to upgrade, I feel like I should get one, but I'm unsure how it affects the overall installation. Second, is a custom cooler really necessary? I have an older, compact case that doesn't provide great cooling (and I've only used stock coolers before). I've seen some high temps, like 90 degrees for the CPU and 100 degrees for the GPU, but miraculously, I've never encountered an issue in ten years. Should I seek out a custom air cooler that fits, or can I stick with the stock cooling? Any advice or resources would be really appreciated!

You can indeed improve your PC case a bit! Adding good fans for better airflow is key. Consider getting intake fans at the front and an exhaust fan at the back. If your case allows, a top fan can also help to expel hot air. Regular cleaning helps a lot to keep dust out!
Honestly, 100°C and 90°C are way too high for your components. You’re really pushing them too hard! I’d recommend looking for a case with better airflow and definitely getting a new cooler. Stock coolers from Intel aren't the greatest. What's the size of your current case? And how many fans do you have installed?
I measured my case, and it’s about 35x35x17 cm, quite old. Changing it isn’t really an option unless I find something the same size or smaller. I think I have two small fans that came with it, too.
When you mention 'box cooling', do you mean the stock cooler that comes with older CPUs? The KF versions actually don’t come with coolers, so you’ll definitely need to pick one up separately. You should definitely get a better cooler than what you've been using!
Oh, I see! I didn’t realize the KF versions don’t come with coolers. Thanks for clarifying. Do you have any recommendations for smaller coolers that would fit in my case?
Sure, I could make some adjustments, but I’ve never had issues before, which is why I’m questioning the need for a cooler!
