I'm just starting my journey in web development, and I'm really passionate about backend technologies. I've got some knowledge of frontend concepts, but I noticed that many job listings require full stack skills, like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I'm considering focusing on Node.js for backend, but I'm also looking at C# with ASP.NET as an alternative. So, do most web development positions really require full stack abilities? Would I have a better chance landing a job with ASP.NET instead?

Many job ads for full-stack positions pop up because employers want to maximize their resources, getting essentially two specialists for the price of one. In my experience, you can specialize in either but having the ability to tackle both sides is a plus.
The requirements really depend on the company. Some firms are looking for full stack developers while others have separate teams for frontend and backend. It’s a good idea to learn a bit about the frontend, but if backend is where your interest lies, focus there!
From my experience teaching web development, there often seems to be a misconception between web development and software development. I believe a solid grasp of general software development principles is crucial for becoming a good web developer. While having full stack skills is beneficial, understanding the fundamentals of both backend and frontend will definitely enhance your capabilities.
Nowadays, it’s pretty much assumed that developers are at least somewhat full stack. Many companies expect some familiarity with both front and backend.
I started with Django and focused on backend for a couple of years, but the market tends to expect some baseline knowledge of both frontend and backend. Once you start enjoying the full scope of web development, it really isn't as daunting as it seems!

So true! Even if you specialize, knowing a bit about the other side can be really helpful.
