Are Mid-Range Laptops Struggling to Run Windows Smoothly?

I'm feeling pretty frustrated with my ASUS VivoBook running Windows 11. It often takes an agonizing 10-15 seconds just to right-click or open my browser, sometimes even leading to minutes of wait time. I regularly defrag it and have ensured there's no malware, but nothing seems to help for long. I've owned several laptops over the past year, and this sluggish performance seems to be a recurring issue. Is it possible that mid-range laptops just can't handle Windows these days? Here are my specs: Intel Core i5-1035G1 CPU at 1.00 GHz, 12 GB RAM, and a mechanical hard drive. I'd appreciate any insights or advice!

A mechanical drive just can't keep up these days, especially with Windows 11's demands. Also, check if any background apps are hogging your resources. If you have any third-party antivirus, that could slow things down too.

No third-party antivirus for me, but I'll definitely keep an eye on Task Manager!

I’ve had similar issues with a mechanical drive; it’s frustrating. SSDs are pretty essential now. Consider checking your power settings as well. You can make sure your CPU isn't stuck at a low performance mode.

That's a solid idea; I’ll explore the power settings next!

Honestly, your specs are quite low for modern software demands. Intel's 1GHz CPUs and mechanical HDDs were outclassed years ago. Upgrading to an SSD and maybe even checking your CPU performance settings could help a lot!

Wow, I didn’t realize how outdated my laptop was. Thanks for the heads up!

It sounds like your laptop is still using a mechanical hard drive instead of an SSD. Those old drives are much slower, and switching to an SSD would significantly boost performance—it's like night and day!

I had no idea it made such a big difference! I’m definitely considering an SSD upgrade now.
