I recently dropped my AirPods case into a small ditch or river. I'm wondering if I would be covered by AppleCare if I decide to buy it after the incident. I know that loss or damage isn't typically covered, but technically, my AirPods might be considered lost now. What are your thoughts on this? It seems like AppleCare would be £55, while buying new without it would be £89, so I'm trying to save some cash if possible.

Nope, definitely not covered. Even if you think it’s ‘technically’ lost, it’s still not going to fly.
If you managed to get your AirPods back and they’re working fine, then you don't need AppleCare. But if they’re submerged and actually showing problems, you might want to consider getting a whole new set instead of just relying on AppleCare replacements.
Yeah, that’s a bit of a stretch. It’s not the most honest approach.
AppleCare wouldn’t cover AirPods that are lost. Signing up for it now wouldn’t help since the damage has already been done. Might be better just to look into a new pair.
Honestly, you can't really buy insurance for something after it's already broken or lost. That doesn't work out.
