Are my RX 9070xt VRAM temps normal at idle?

Hey everyone! I've got an RX 9070xt Gigabyte OC housed in an ITX case with quiet fans that usually run at 40% peak. The ambient temperature is about 28°. Previously, the thermal gel on the VRAM was causing temps to hit 98° under load. Since my GPU isn't under warranty (had to import it from a third world country), I decided to replace the thermal paste myself.

I tried using different thicknesses (1.5mm, 1.0mm, and 1.25mm) for the thermal paste. Idle temps were usually around 55° to 60°, but after about 20 minutes of use, I saw temps maxing out at 94°. Recently, I used 1.25mm for the chokes, MOSFETs, and VRAM, which has kept the VRAM at 90°, a bit lower than before, but now I'm seeing idle temps between 65° and 70°.

Is this idle temperature range normal for my setup? I could crank up the fans for better cooling, but I really like how they are running right now. Everything else, including the GPU and CPU temps, is looking great, except for the VRAM. I used Thermal Grizzly Minus Pad 8 for the 1.0mm and 1.5mm and Upsiren 24w 1.25mm for the latest application. Should I be worried about the higher idle temps compared to the previous higher load temps, or is this acceptable? Any tips within the ITX framework would be appreciated! Thanks!

I think you're on the right track! It's common for VRAM temps to vary, and while higher idle temps are not ideal, your modifications seem to have improved things overall. If you find that the GPU isn’t throttling under load, you’re likely fine. Just keep monitoring it, and don't hesitate to tweak your fan settings if you feel it’s necessary!

Good suggestion! Monitoring and adjusting can make a huge difference without sacrificing noise levels. Plus, if you notice any performance issues, you can always adjust then.

It sounds like you're making great progress with your cooling solutions! Idle temps between 65° and 70° can be a bit on the high side, especially when you're looking at VRAM. But considering your ambient temp is 28° and that you've already brought load temps down significantly, it might not be terrible. Just keep an eye on it; if you're comfortable with the current fan setup, you could leave it as is. Also, ensure good airflow in the case; sometimes, rearranging cables can help with cooling too!

Yeah, I agree! If you're happy with the overall performance and the other components are cool, it might be a non-issue. Just make sure those fans aren’t blocked!
