Are My Ryzen 7 9800X3D Temps Too High with My Cooler?

Hey everyone! I could really use some advice on my PC setup. I've got a Ryzen 7 9800X3D paired with a Noctua NH-U12A cooler, and I'm seeing some pretty high temperatures. While idling or under low load, I'm sitting at around 50°C (122°F), but during gaming, that can spike up to 93°C (199°F), which feels way too high to me.

I've set up my case with six fans: three intakes at the front, two exhausts on top, and one exhaust at the back. The cooler has its fans pulling air from the front and pushing it out the back.

I've already tried a few things to lower the temps:
- Made sure the mounting pieces fit the socket correctly
- Reapplied thermal paste, using more this time because it seemed a bit thin
- Adjusted the cooler's pressure by tightening and loosening it to optimize contact with the CPU
- Checked that the fan speeds looked normal, maxing out at 100% when hitting 80°C

It's pretty hot right now where I live, with the room temp sitting around 27°C (80°F) and little humidity. I'm using a Fractal Design North XL case, and I'm just worried about these high temps!

Check your fan configuration! Having two exhaust fans at the top isn't ideal. You might want to switch the front top fan to be an intake to improve airflow around your CPU cooler. Also, check the direction of the fans on your cooler – they should be blowing the right way!

Thanks for the tip! I'll test out adjusting those fans and see if it helps.

Just so you know, CPUs like the 9800X3D are designed to handle high temps while performing well. You're bound to see spikes into the 90s when gaming. If you want more control, try setting your fan curves more aggressively to kick it up a notch during loads. It's all about managing that airflow in your case!

Honestly, your temps aren't as alarming as you think. A lot of gamers see high numbers, especially with all that heat in your area. It's typical for CPUs like the 9800X3D to run hot under load, and a peak at 93°C is pretty common for intense gaming sessions. Just make sure you keep an eye on it, but it's likely within a safe range.

Yep, I have a similar setup, and I've had my temps frequently over 90°C while gaming. As long as it cools down after the load, it shouldn't be a big issue.

Remounting the cooler could definitely help. Clean everything well and reapply thermal paste carefully. Make sure it’s even and not too thick. Also, have you tried checking your SOC voltage? Sometimes reducing it can help lower overall temps without sacrificing performance too much.

Great idea! I'll look into that. I haven't checked the SOC voltage before.
