I was looking for a new server to use for backups and my HPE Account Manager mentioned that there are no SAS HBA cards available for Gen12 servers. Is that really the case? Are we being pushed to use Fibre Channel instead?

Which specific Gen12 server are you looking at? I just checked and you can still get a SAS HBA for the DL320 model. Honestly, if a server doesn't support a SAS card, it's pretty much useless in my opinion!

From what I've gathered, if you get a regular RAID card (you don’t have to actually use RAID) along with a drive cage with SAS ports, they should connect just fine. Otherwise, the internal storage limits on models like the DL380 Gen12 might really hold you back. You can find more details in the quickspecs too!

I actually need to connect a SAS Tape Library to this server, so that makes things a bit tricky. Hopefully, I can sort it out!
