Advice for Buying a Used CPU: What Should I Look Out For?

I'm diving into the world of used PC parts for the first time and came across a used 7800X3D being sold for 350 euros nearby. Since I don't own an AM5 board yet, I'm wondering what I should check and be aware of to ensure I'm making a safe purchase. The seller mentioned it's relatively new and has a receipt along with a warranty. Any tips on how to proceed safely with this?

Used AM5 CPUs are generally safe to buy since they’re tougher to damage compared to AM4 models. Just ask the seller if they can test the CPU for you and send pictures as proof; that's about the best assurance you can get with local sales.

When buying from individuals, especially used parts, make sure to see the CPU working in person! Don’t settle for just pictures or videos, as you want to confirm it's functional. If they refuse to let you see it running, I'd walk away from the deal. Also, double-check the price. Is 350 euros reasonable compared to new? In Finland, new ones are around 430 euros, which could save you some cash if it’s a good deal.

I might still go for it since the seller has receipts and claims it's only a month old.

Exactly! I looked at Amazon and prices fluctuate around 400-450 euros in different countries.

Check for physical signs of damage like bent pins, damaged corners, or any discoloration—especially red or orange as that might indicate water damage. When you test it, verify that it’s showing all specifications correctly. Make sure all cores/threads are functioning and that it boosts correctly across all cores. Keep an eye on voltage stability too; it shouldn't fluctuate too much!
