Are the temperatures for my RTX 3080 blower card normal?

I'm new to the PC building scene and recently bought an RTX 3080 at a great price, but I didn't realize it was a blower-style card until I started monitoring its performance. At first, I was shocked to see temperatures rise to **88°C** at only 60% usage, with fans spinning up to 4000rpm like a jet engine. I played with it for about a month without any visible issues, but it made me anxious. After some research, I took steps to improve it: I repasted the GPU, learned how to undervolt it, and set up a custom fan curve. Now under maximum load (1440p), the temperatures are more stable, sitting between 73°C and 76°C. However, since it's a blower card, I'm unsure what's considered safe. Recently, while gaming, it fluctuated between 70% and 90% usage, stabilizing around **81°C** with the default fan curve only pushing the fans to about 40%. Are these temperature readings typical and safe for a blower RTX 3080?

For reference, getting close to 90°C isn't a disaster for a stock 3080. If it hits that under heavy loads, consider improving your case ventilation, and think about repasting it. Just keep in mind, if it starts throttling around 95°C, it’ll work to prevent overheating.

Yeah, anything below 90°C is generally considered fine for these cards. When it goes over 100°C, though, that's where you should start to worry. Anything over 110°C might cause serious damage to the card.

I’m currently testing full load right now, and my GPU is already at 87°C with the fans only going at 58%. Should I be concerned?

Those temperatures are pretty normal for a blower-style card. Instead of just looking at load percentage, it’s better to gauge power usage—different workloads will draw different amounts of power, which can affect temp readings.

Honestly, 70°C is pretty standard. Just keep an eye on it. My previous RTX 3080 had issues with hotspot temperatures, especially if you're heavily engaging in gaming and overclocking. The core temp is crucial, but don’t forget about VRAM temperatures—my buddy faced some latency issues due to it. If you're noticing irregular performance, the thermal pads might need replacing too.
