Are There Any MacBooks with Built-in 5G Modems?

I'm on the hunt for a new MacBook to use for work, and my only must-have feature is built-in 5G capability. I'm flexible with both macOS and Windows, as I can run Windows 365 for heavier tasks like Hyper-V, so I don't need a powerhouse CPU or tons of RAM.

However, I'm struggling to pinpoint which MacBook models come with the C1 modem since the consumer options don't seem to offer 5G. I also have access to Apple Business Manager for business models and want to make my first purchase through it for Automated Device Enrollment in Intune. Can I simply go to an Apple Store and have them enroll the device in ABM? Do they have MacBooks with the C1 modem available?

As others have mentioned, there are currently no MacBooks with cellular options. It’s a bit surprising considering iPads have that capability. If your question is about enrolling in Apple Business Manager, make sure to provide your Organizational Number when you visit the store! You can find this ID by logging into your ABM account, clicking your username, and checking under Preferences for Organizational Information.

It’s indeed surprising that there’s no built-in cellular option for MacBooks right now. The prevailing thought is it’s better to just use a mobile hotspot from your phone since those devices are updated regularly and tend to last longer than laptops, which many people keep for years.

Unfortunately, there are no MacBooks with built-in cellular modems. That’s been a common request, but Apple hasn’t rolled out any models that support this. Also, there's no distinction between business and consumer models when it comes to cellular connectivity. Most users just tether their iPhones instead.

I think there are other priorities for most, like needing more RAM! Plus, tethering is super easy if you already have a phone plan.

Exactly! I just use my phone’s hotspot when I need internet on my Mac. No need for extra cellular connectivity.

I’ve been curious about this too. It seems strange that they offer cellular on iPads, but not on MacBooks. If you plan to enroll your new MacBook in ABM, just have your Organization ID ready for the Apple Store. That should streamline the process for you!
