Are Upgrading to a 5700X3D or 5800X3D Worth It?

I'm looking to upgrade my old PC build, which currently has an RX 580 and a Ryzen 2600. I've been debating whether to invest in the 5700X3D or 5800X3D, but they're quite expensive. Some folks recommend them for longevity in gaming, but I'm curious about what others think. Are these CPUs worth the investment for my setup?

Honestly, unless you find a super deal, you might want to wait for newer generation components. Consider a fresh build instead. Your other components are pretty outdated, so it may be worth the investment in a complete upgrade rather than piecemeal tweaks.

You make a good point. I initially thought about a full system upgrade but was hesitant with the current market situation.

It's tough because what constitutes "worth it" is so subjective. Your use case matters a lot. If you're doing heavy gaming, holding out for a better upgrade might be smart. Keeping your 2600 could still work for a while longer, especially with a nice GPU boost.

I get where you're coming from. I'm looking to game mostly and was thinking of getting a 9060XT to pair with it.

Honestly, I don’t think those prices are worth it right now. The 5800X and the 5700 are solid options without breaking the bank. You could get more performance for less money with those.

Totally agree! The 5700X is a great deal. The naming can be misleading though—some of the other models are just better overall in terms of performance.

Yeah, I feel like you could do better with options like a 5600 or even a 5700X. More cache really pays off!

As a 5800X3D owner, I have to say it's not really worth it—especially if you’re using an RX 580. You’ll mostly face GPU bottlenecks. A regular 5000 series will serve you well for gaming with cards around the level of a 5060 Ti or 5070. Even then, you can cap FPS for a better experience without a hitch.

Thanks for the insight! I actually plan to upgrade the RX 580 as well, so this gives me some perspective.

For $400-$500, there are definitely better alternatives. You could get a new 7600X, a B850 motherboard, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and a decent cooler for around $419 if you check these bundles. Selling your old parts and upgrading your GPU to something like a used 3060 or a higher model could make a massive difference without costing a fortune.

Great point! If your budget allows, a second-hand 3080 for around $300 would be a solid combo!
