Hey everyone! I'm upgrading my setup with a 5090 and I'm in need of a solid 1200W PSU. I've narrowed down my choices to four different units, and I'd love some input before making a final decision. My top priority is to avoid the cable melting issues that some PSUs are known for. Here's what I'm looking for:

- Must support Intel ATX 12V Version 3.1 (I've read this is beneficial for the 5090)
- Needs to have a native 12V-2x6 GPU cable rated for 600W without any adapters
- Should be able to handle 200% power spikes for at least 100 µs
- Should be at least 80 Plus Gold rated

Here are my shortlisted options:

1. NZXT C1200 Gold (PA-2G2BB-EU) – 80 Plus Gold
2. Enermax PlatiGemini 1200 W (EGN1200P) – 80 Plus Platinum, ATX 3.1 + ATX12VO combo
3. MSI MAG A1250GL PCIE5 – 1250 W, Gold, passes 2× transient burst tests
4. be quiet! Straight Power 12 1200 W (BN339) – Platinum, dual 12V-2x6 cables

What do you all think? Thanks in advance!

The 12V-2x6 plug can be unbalanced on the GPU side, and unfortunately, many PSUs can't fully protect against burning. However, the AsRock Phantom Gaming PG-G PSU has thermistors on the cables that might help avoid that issue. I heard that Seasonic might have similar safety features in some models, so check them out too!

Out of your shortlisted options, I'd say the NZXT C1200 is a standout, although the cables could be better. By the way, which country are you in?

Cable melting often happens due to connector limitations and the power running through them. No PSU is entirely safe from this issue, but some are designed better than others. Have you thought about the Montech Century II 1200W? It could be a solid option for you!

I have considered it but I thought higher quality PSUs also come with better quality cables. Just trying to understand this better!
