Best Air Cooler Recommendations for Ryzen 7 9700X

I'm in the market for an air cooler to pair with my Ryzen 7 9700X CPU. I've been eyeing the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE because it's often recommended for its excellent cooling performance and quiet operation, which is what I prefer. However, I've noticed that it might obstruct my RAM, especially if I decide to go for RGB RAM, and I'm not a fan of that aesthetic. Given that the 9700X has a low power output, do I really need a dual-tower cooler like the Peerless Assassin, or can anyone suggest a quieter alternative? Just as a side note, I'm building in a Fractal Meshify 3 case.

If you’re worried about space, you could always reposition the fans in your setup. The fans usually attach with clips, allowing you to move them around easily. It could help make everything fit nicer without sacrificing cooling performance!

You might want to consider a single-fan version of the cooler, which could save you some cash—it's often less than half the price. Personally, I think bigger coolers are better because they run quieter and cooler overall, but if you're on a budget, it might work out for you. The Peerless Assassin is still a solid choice under $40.

I have the Ryzen 5 9600X, and honestly, it doesn't take much cooling unless you’re overclocking. For your 9700X, I'd say just pick a cooler with dimensions that fit your case and go for it. I think even a basic one would suffice, but the cooler it runs, the better for longevity.

I have a Freezer 36 on my 5950X, and it keeps it below 80 degrees under load, so it should handle your 9700X just fine! Just make sure your case has good airflow.

I’ve heard great things about the Freezer series—they provide excellent cooling for the price!

I use the Peerless Assassin on my 5800X, which has a higher TDP than the 9700X, and I’ve had great results. Just make sure to direct the fans toward the rear exhaust in your case—helps with airflow and noise. You won't be disappointed with its cooling capabilities!

Definitely agree! My experience has shown that directing airflow properly makes a big difference.
