Best Arch-Based Distros for a Linux Newbie Ready for More

I've recently made the switch to Linux and have been experimenting with Zorin OS. While I appreciate Zorin's features and the GNOME desktop environment, I feel ready to explore other distributions, particularly Arch-based ones, as I've seen some impressive demonstrations of the Caelestia shell. I'm still a beginner but eager for a challenge!

My primary use cases include gaming, CAD applications like FreeCAD and Plasticity, and extensive multitasking with multiple tabs and windows in my web browser. Here are my system specs: Ryzen 9 7950x, Radeon 7900xt, and 64GB DDR5 RAM. What Arch distro would you recommend for me?

If you want to dive in without too much reading beforehand, EndeavourOS is a good pick. It’s practically Arch with a lot of the initial hassle taken care of, allowing you to focus on customizing it according to your needs. But remember, once you step into Arch territory, be prepared for some troubleshooting along the way, as it can get a bit hands-on!

You’ve got some solid options for Arch-based distros! EndeavourOS and CachyOS are both great choices as they come with graphical installers, making the transition easier. If you're feeling adventurous, you might consider going with standard Arch or Artix, which is Arch without systemd. It really depends on how much of a challenge you want. But for a beginner with a drive to learn, Endeavour or Cachy would be your best bet. Hope that helps!

Honestly, either CachyOS or EndeavourOS would work well for you! CachyOS is relatively new but has a growing community and great tools that streamline the setup process. Plus, you can always tackle that DIY experience by doing a manual install of Arch later on—it's a great way to learn. But if you want an easier start, I'd recommend sticking with one of the Arch derivatives first.
