Best CD/DVD Drives for Reading Damaged Discs and Reviving Old DVDs

I'm trying to recover data from an old DVD that seems to have developed some sort of degradation in its working layer over the years. I've heard that Plextor drives along with PlextorTools are top-notch when it comes to reading scratched or damaged discs. Can anyone suggest the best drives for this or share their tips on how to revive an older DVD? Any secret methodologies to extract information or prevent further loss would be really appreciated!

While I can't point to a specific drive, I've had some luck polishing light scratches out of discs. Usually, if the scratches are on the bottom, you can use plastic polish or even special scratch repair kits. Just a heads-up, if the disc isn’t visibly scratched, the issue might be due to media degradation from age, not scratches. It’s really tough to deal with that.

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately, I think it’s more than just scratches. The DVD is over 25 years old, and I've heard freezing it might help, but I've got my doubts about that.
