I'm considering upgrading my CPU because I've been experiencing some bottlenecking during demanding games, like Monster Hunter: World and Cyberpunk 2077. Additionally, I notice stuttering in Firefox when I'm playing less intense games like Warframe or Civ 6/7 while streaming YouTube or Netflix on my second monitor. I'm looking for suggestions on what CPU I can upgrade to without needing to replace my PSU. Currently, I have a 650W PSU, which I believe is the minimum recommended for my GPU. I'm hoping to make this upgrade without breaking the bank! Here are my current specs:
- Motherboard: Asrock B760M-C/D4
- CPU: Intel i5 12400F @ 2.5GHz
- GPU: 4070
- RAM: 32GB (2x16GB)
- Storage: 1TB NVME & 1TB SSD
- PSU: 650W Gold

Consider the 12600K or even 12700K, 13600K, or 14600K depending on your budget. Just make sure to update your BIOS to avoid any issues with the 13th/14th gen chips. Also, keep in mind these higher core count Intel CPUs tend to run hotter than your current 12400F, so check the compatibility with your cooler too!
You should definitely check out your motherboard's VRM. If it’s up to the task, a CPU upgrade to something like the 14700K can be a great option, especially as it's currently on discount!
Thanks for the tip! I realized I forgot to mention my motherboard model, it's the Asrock B760M-C/D4.
What's the issue with the 13th/14th gen Intel CPUs? I've heard mixed things about their reliability.
