Best CPU Upgrade for My AM4 Setup?

I'm looking to refresh my current AM4 system without building a new AM5 setup yet due to high prices on RAM and GPUs. My setup includes a Gigabyte B550M motherboard, an AMD 5700G CPU, an RX 6700XT GPU, and 32GB of Corsair DDR4 RAM. I built this in 2021 and am still using an older case and a reliable Seasonic 750W Gold power supply from my previous build in 2013.

For my needs—music production, coding, and mainly playing Warframe at 1440p—the system works well. I'm not chasing the latest AAA titles, as I have a backlog of older games. I want to know if upgrading to a 5800X or 5800XT would be beneficial, especially since the 5700G only supports PCIe 3.0 and has lower cache and fewer PCI lanes, which led to audio crackling issues with my USB audio interface. Would this upgrade make sense, or should I consider other options?

If you're into audio production, it's good to know that it can be quite multithreaded. You might want to consider going for a 5900X or even a 5900XT. But if you're looking for better PCI-E bandwidth, the 5700X could be a great choice since you've mentioned that bandwidth is a bottleneck for you. It also has a lower power draw, which is a plus if it's cheaper than the 5800s.

Have you considered switching to Intel? If your budget allows it, selling your board and CPU might get you a nice upgrade with better multithreading and performance on the Intel LGA1700 chipset. You could find a good deal on a higher-end 12th or 13th gen CPU while keeping your RAM.

I run Ableton with a 5900X and have zero issues. So yeah, both the 5800X or 5900X should serve you well too. They could be a perfect fit for your needs!

The 5700X could really extend the life of your system, especially now that you see it at a decent price. It might not be what you originally planned for, but it sounds like a solid move given the current market.

From what I've seen, the 5800X and 5900X are solid options, and if you're feeling adventurous, maybe even look into the 5950X!
