Best CPU Upgrade for My System with a New GPU?

Asked By TechGuru42 On

I'm currently using a B450 Pro motherboard with a Ryzen 5 2600x and Vega 56 graphics. A friend is selling me an RTX 2080 Super for a good price, and I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU to avoid bottlenecks. I could grab his 3600x, but I'm also eyeing the 5700X3D. Is it worth spending more on the 5700X3D, or would that be overkill and not the best investment right now? I'd like to keep this setup running for another 3-4 years before considering a full upgrade. I want to keep costs down as much as possible, but the 5700X3D is really tempting! Any advice?

If you're aiming for over 100 FPS in games like Warzone or Battlefield 6, going for the 5700X3D is a smart choice. A little extra cash now could pay off in the long run. It’s definitely going to keep you at a solid gaming performance for those titles, plus it should last you beyond your 3-4 year mark too!

For sure, if you can stretch your budget a bit for that 5700X3D, I think it’ll be totally worth it!

The 5700X or 5800X are great middle-ground options that won’t break the bank but will give you a solid boost from the 2600X. Just keep in mind it may not be as powerful as the X3D, but it's more budget-friendly!

So, do you think the used 3600X my friend has isn't worth considering?

If you want the best bang for your buck, check out the used market for the 5700X3D. If you can spend around $400, you might also look at getting a 9600x with a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM, though that might be a bigger leap financially.

The 5700X3D is definitely the top choice for gaming. If you can handle the price, go for it; otherwise, the 5700X might fit your budget better, and it would still be a significant upgrade.

Would the 5700X still be a noticeable improvement if I'm only using a 2080 Super?
