I'm on the hunt for a desktop assistant that offers functionality similar to Claude Code but in a more user-friendly desktop format, like Windows Copilot. Ideally, it should be able to interact with my desktop, install apps, and utilize streaming voice or something close to that. I've given OpenUI and AnythingLLM a shot, but both were pretty buggy for me. Any recommendations?

Have you tried Claude Cowork? It might have the features you’re looking for!
You might want to check out Openclaw; it’s one of the closest options to what you're seeking. But I must caution you against letting any AI control your daily driver or productive workstation. It could lead to some serious issues!
If you're looking for an assistant that can install apps, just keep in mind that it would need root access, which can pose security risks. Having an AI see your desktop might also be concerning. I wonder why you'd want that level of access?
I totally get your point. I do take on some risks for the sake of convenience and exploration, though. I keep my important files on a local NAS that the AI doesn't have access to, so I feel okay about it.

I was actually thinking about trying Openclaw. I don’t understand the hype either; it feels a lot like Claude Code but with a chat interface. What do you use it for?
