Hey everyone! I'm a musician who also loves gaming, and I'm curious about dual booting an OS off my SSD. I want to find a system that can support both music production, specifically with Ableton, and gaming. If there aren't any distributions that can handle both well, I'm open to just using a gaming-focused distro and sticking with Windows for my music work. Also, it would be great if the distro could run Discord with the vencord add-on, but I'm flexible on that front too!

I suggest checking out Bazzite. It's a gaming-oriented distro that comes preloaded with Nvidia drivers, so you won't run into driver issues, plus it has Steam installed. I personally find it great for gaming. However, I'm not sure how well it'll support your other music programs.
The Linux kernel is included in all distros, so you'll find many programs available. Discord works natively on Linux and through browsers, so that shouldn't be a concern. If you're new to Linux, I'd recommend trying something user-friendly like Fedora or Nobara, especially for easier setup with NVIDIA drivers. Fedora has various desktop 'spins' like Gnome and KDE, which give you different experiences. For stability, you might also consider ZorinOS, Ubuntu, or Linux Mint, which don't update as frequently. Just a heads up, Ableton can run through Wine/Proton but not as ideally, so it’s worth testing out once you're set up! There are good alternatives for DAWs like Reaper and Ardour too.
There are also specialized distros for audio/visual artists, such as AVlinux and Ubuntu Studio, which could be perfect for your music production needs!
Besides the open-source options, I recently heard about Bitwig as a paid alternative to Ableton. It's created by former Ableton employees, so it might be worth looking into.
