Hi everyone! I'm looking for advice regarding my elderly relative who is beginning to experience dementia. Unfortunately, he fell prey to some email scams before we managed to secure his account. He understands why we had to do it, but he still enjoys emailing his friends and family and I want to help him keep that habit alive. I'm trying to find either an email service or a way to set up a PC email client that would only allow him to send and receive emails from a specific list of trusted contacts. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can achieve this? Thanks a lot for your help!

If you decide to use Office 365, you can set up mail flow rules to manage both incoming and outgoing messages. You could even create a second shared mailbox for holding any questionable emails, allowing you to review them before approval.
You might consider taking over his email account and creating a private one for him. You can manually check emails from his original account and forward safe ones to his new one. For added security, you could set up some filters that only forward emails from trusted addresses. Also, as his condition progresses, someone might need to read emails to him and help him respond. I did something similar with my wife when she had Alzheimer's, and it really helped her stay connected, even as her abilities changed.
Fastmail.com has great options for this! I’ve been using them for years, and they offer a simple webmail interface that can handle exactly what you need. You can set filters for both incoming and outgoing emails to ensure only trusted senders can communicate.
Most good email services can make this super easy with mail rules. For instance, you can set up a rule like 'if sender not in this list, then delete'. This way, anything suspicious won't even reach his inbox. Just make sure everything is set up server-side to prevent bypassing these rules.
