Best GPU Options for an Old 2013 Build to Play Diablo IV

I'm trying to upgrade an old 2013 PC build to gift it to someone who just wants to play Diablo IV at decent settings. The system currently has an i7 4930k CPU, GTX 960 4GB GPU, and 32GB of DDR3 RAM. I'm hoping to find a GPU that can still provide solid performance, even if it's a bit overkill and may be bottlenecked by the old hardware. I checked out a few options available locally in Perth, Australia, like the RTX 3050, RTX 5050, and RX 7600, as well as high-end cards like the RX 9060 XT and RTX 5060 Ti for future upgrades. I'm looking to stay under $400 for now since I want to squeeze as much life out of the current PSU (which is quite old) before any major upgrades. What GPU do you think would work best for this setup?

Since your PSU is older, I'd be cautious with the higher-end cards. The RX 7600 might be a better fit if you're aiming for something under $400. It strikes a balance between price and performance while being more compatible with your existing build. Be sure to check the wattage requirements as well!

Totally agree! I’m leaning towards something like the RX 7600 for now. It should handle Diablo IV decently while keeping power concerns manageable.

I played Diablo IV on similar hardware and honestly, even a GTX 1060 6GB can pull decent frames. If you're not planning on running at ultra settings, you might just need a solid mid-range card like the 3060 or 6700 XT to play smoothly without breaking the bank. Plus, don't forget to install an SSD for faster loading times. That can really enhance the experience.

I'd steer clear of the RTX 3050 and 5050 cards since they won't provide the VRAM you need for a smooth experience. Look for secondhand options like the 6700XT or 6800 XT if you can find them; those will give you much better specs for playing Diablo IV. They're also more future-proof, so it could save you some hassle later on!

Thanks for the tip! It would be great to find a 6700 or 6800 for a good deal. I see how the extra VRAM could really help in newer games.

I’d recommend going with the RX 9060 XT if you're looking for solid performance with that system. It has a full bus which helps a lot with the bandwidth limitations of your motherboard compared to the x8 cards. Even though it’s a bit pricier, it’ll make a noticeable difference in gaming overall. You might check for a used one as well if you can find it within your budget.

That makes sense! I hadn't thought about the bus width's impact. Do you really think the performance boost from the 9060 XT would be significant enough to justify that price?
