Best Laptop Recommendations for DevOps on a Budget

I'm looking for a laptop that can handle DevOps tasks, specifically system administration. I've been dealing with costly cloud services, and I don't like the idea of not owning my machine. Building a desktop initially seemed like a good option, but factoring in the costs for peripherals and a UPS due to frequent power outages in Nepal, I've decided a laptop is better suited for my needs. My previous laptop was an i5 7th generation with 16GB RAM, but it struggled to handle more than three virtual machines. I'm aiming for a laptop with at least 32GB RAM and a solid processor without exceeding my budget of $700 (around 100K NPR). What processors offer the best value for money?

For what you're doing, look for a modern Intel i5 or an AMD equivalent. If possible, try to snag a system with DDR5 RAM, but I understand that budget can be tight where you are. If you haven't considered it yet, using Linux might maximize your resources much better than Windows. Consider getting Windows Server 2022 trial or Windows 10 LTSC to keep things running smoothly without too much overhead, but Linux would be your best bet for virtual machines. You'll have a better experience there!

Absolutely! Switching to Linux could really reduce resource usage, and it has great support for containers too. Just curious—why are you sticking with Windows?
