Hey everyone! I have two older laptops sitting around: a Samsung Notebook RV510 and an HP 2000416DX. I'm thinking of repurposing one to run a lightweight Linux distro for everyday tasks. Which laptop do you think is better for this, and what OS would you recommend?

I’d suggest trying CachyOS with the XFCE desktop environment. It’s pretty lightweight and should run smoothly on older hardware!

Does CachyOS have any specific hardware requirements I should be aware of?

If you're looking to visit heavy websites regularly, you might not find any lightweight Linux distro that handles that well. But if you want daily use recommendations, I can share some options!

It really depends on what desktop environment you decide on. For lightweight options, you could consider XFCE, LXQT, Mate, or even Cinnamon. If you're up for a challenge, try tiling window managers like Qtile or Sway. A minimal Debian installation could also work great. Just avoid overly cluttered distros like Linux Mint for your use case.
