Hi everyone! I have an older laptop with 4GB of RAM, an Intel Pentium N3700 processor, and a 1TB hard drive. Currently, it's running Windows 10, but it's very sluggish. I'm looking for advice on Linux distributions that would make my experience smoother. I primarily want to use it for watching videos, browsing the web, and performing simple tasks. Any suggestions?

MX Linux is a solid choice! It's lightweight and performs well on older machines. You might also want to consider Linux Lite or Lubuntu for an even smoother experience.
If you're looking for something really light, check out Bodhi Linux. It’s very stable and designed for low-resource systems, which might be perfect for your setup.
I recommend trying Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE). It has a familiar Windows-like interface with the Cinnamon desktop, and it’s quite stable for beginners. On idle, it uses around 1.0-1.2GB of RAM, which should work well with your laptop's specs. Just don't expect it to speed up the old HDD too much, though!
I’ve had good luck with LMDE on older hardware! Just remember to keep it light—don’t run too many tasks at once.
I’ve successfully used Fedora with the Mate desktop on an old HP laptop with similar specs—runs much better than Windows! Putting in an SSD really helped speed things up, too.
Have you checked out Linux Mint with the XFCE desktop? It’s designed to run efficiently on older hardware compared to Windows. Plus, it should handle your tasks pretty well.

Why do you prefer LMDE over the regular Linux Mint?
