Hey everyone! I'm gearing up for some travel and I recently got a Lenovo IdeaPad 1i mainly for its budget-friendly price. I didn't do extensive research beforehand, and I found out it's powered by an Intel Celeron N4020 processor at 1.10GHz with just 2 cores. While it has 8GB of RAM, I'm noticing that the CPU tends to max out quickly, even when doing lightweight tasks like streaming YouTube or playing simple games like Snake. I'm curious if switching to a lightweight Linux distribution could boost its performance. I'm not too experienced with Linux but I've heard of options like Puppy Linux. I'm not sure if this would be too much for what I need or if there are better alternatives. I'm looking to do some basic tasks such as watching videos, writing documents, light studying, and maybe playing older games like GTA: San Andreas. Any advice on whether I should just stick to writing or if there's a lightweight Linux option that could enhance my laptop's performance? Thanks in advance!

I run Debian with KDE on a Chromebook that has the same processor and less RAM. It handles YouTube well, though I'm unsure about playing GTA: San Andreas. It can run some simple RPG Maker games just fine! If you’re using an eMMC drive, just make sure to set `noatime` in your mount options and consider swapping a traditional swap partition for zram, which can help performance!
I’m not too experienced with Linux, what’s a swap partition?
