Best Linux Distro for an Old Laptop?

I'm thinking about giving my old Acer Aspire 7750 a new life with some Linux experiments. It currently runs Windows 7 and is powered by an AMD C-50 processor with just 2GB of RAM. Should I just leave it as is, or would it be worth my time to install a Linux distribution? Any recommendations?

I always go for Mint, especially the XFCE version. It’s user-friendly and should work well on your laptop.

You might also want to look into Void XFCE, MX Linux, or even AntiX Linux. They’re all pretty lightweight. For installation, format a USB (16GB+), copy over the ISOs, and test them out by booting from the USB. Good luck with your experiments!

Consider installing Debian core without a desktop environment first, then add XFCE. It’s a lean setup that won’t use too many resources, but keep in mind it might feel a bit slow. My laptop has a bit more RAM than yours, and it still takes some time to get going!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely check that out.

Lubuntu is a solid choice too. Very lightweight and easy to use!

With 2GB of RAM, you’ll want something lightweight. I’d recommend trying out Mint XFCE or Lubuntu—they both keep things running smoothly on older machines. If you can, upgrading the RAM and swapping in an SSD can really help with performance too!
