I'm looking for a beginner-friendly Linux distribution that would work well on my old PC. It has the following specs: AMD Athlon II X2 B26, Nvidia NVS 300, and 4GB DDR3 RAM. I have a lot of storage available, but no SSD. The catch is that I won't have a regular internet connection—I'll only be able to download the necessary files using my phone. I've been considering Linux Mint 19.3 with XFCE, as it seems like a solid option that will still receive support. Any suggestions or alternatives?

You could also try Void Linux or an up-to-date distro first. Just make sure that your Nvidia card works with the open-source nouveau driver, although keep in mind that it may lack some advanced features. If you find that it doesn't work, then you can fall back to an older version.
Have you thought about using Knoppix? It's designed to boot from a CD and comes with a bunch of apps already installed. This way, you wouldn't have to worry about downloading extra packages since it can run directly from the disc.
You might want to consider Puppy Linux. It’s lightweight and runs really well on older hardware. Plus, it doesn’t need an internet connection after installation, so it could be ideal for your situation.
