Best Linux Distro for Older PCs

I'm a beginner with Linux and recently tried using Mint XFCE on my older computer. However, I ran into some issues, like the system freezing when I tried to watch videos or with multiple Firefox tabs open, and I noticed video playback was all glitchy. After reverting back to Windows 10 (since I can't upgrade to Windows 11), I suspect my hardware might not support Mint XFCE well. Could anyone suggest a more suitable Linux distro for my setup? Here are my specs:

- CPU: AMD A4-5050 APU 1.5 GHz
- GPU: Radeon HD 8330
- RAM: 8 GB DDR3
- Storage: 1 TB HDD

You should definitely check out Lubuntu or MX Linux. Both distros are known for running smoothly on older hardware!

If you like Mint, consider trying LMDE 7, which is the Debian edition of Mint. Also, MX Linux and AntiX are solid options. With 8GB of RAM, you should be good for most everyday tasks!

I totally get your issues with Mint. I've had similar freezing with Firefox on a few machines. Switching to a different browser might solve some of your problems! What about trying Chrome or Brave instead?

Honestly, Lubuntu might be the best choice for you. I had similar problems with Mint on older hardware, but Lubuntu has been running like a breeze on my setup!

Have you tried Ultramarine? It's based on Fedora and includes all the necessary drivers and codecs. You can run it from a USB flash drive to test it out before committing to an install!
